Creating Ideas for Learning

Social technology has allowed society to be interconnected in unbelievable ways. Most importantly, it has led civilization into the information age. The digital world can also allow everyone to have a say, an idea that was just dreamt about not so long ago. The job of an academic library is truly to cultivate the tools needed for students to thrive in this era where learning is taken to new standards.

There are many beliefs that people have about learning, here are just a couple.

  • Reading is a window to the world

  • Inquiry can provide learning

  • Ethical behavior must be taught

  • Technology skills are needed for employment

  • Everyone deserves access to technology

  • The definition of information technology has been changing as it becomes more complex

  • The expansion of information has formed a desire in people to gain literacy skills themselves

  • It is found that learning can be best understood in a social context

As noticed, most of these ideas seem modern and only the effect of the technology age. Though combined many believe these are the key factors that make up academic libraries.

Based off of these, there is also a learning standard consisting of the steps that lead to learning. Inquire, think, gain knowledge, conclude, decide, apply, create new knowledge based off of the learned knowledge, share the created knowledge, participate in society, and pursue growth.

Though in order to be able to complete all of those tasks, there are four basics that you will need. Firstly the skills, which would have to be determined depending on the research. Next you will need the habits, attitude, and behavior in order to have the disposition in action. Thirdly is the responsibility, or being able to come out into the world and be prepared. Lastly you need to be able to self-assess or be able to determine the quality of your own work.
